Budding designers from a Sheffield primary school have created their school’s new official logo after winning a competition.

Anns Grove Primary School in Heeley partnered with local creative marketing ideas agency The Brand New Idea to run an in-school competition to design the new school’s new logo, and give wannabe designers the opportunity to work with professionals to create the final design.

With hundreds of entries full of great creativity and ideas, staff struggled to pick an overall winner. So working closely with the creative team at The Brand New Idea, they picked five individuals to visit the studio, which is based at Sum Studios in Heeley, to pull together elements from their winning designs and create a truly unique school emblem.

The team of designers at the innovative and-up-and-coming creative agency, which models its business on creating a ‘return on ideas’ for clients, were overjoyed at being able to help their neighbours, but also keen to work on a project that is all about incubating ideas to create an eventual masterpiece that will be fit for the school for many years to come.

Wendy Roberts, Learning Mentor from Anns Grove Primary said:

“We can’t thank Darren enough for giving our children such a fantastic opportunity. The chance to work alongside professionals in such an exciting and innovative work environment is amazing. Everyone in school can’t wait to see the new logo”

Sum Studios, which is a project to fully refurbish the old Victorian Anns Grove school buildings into modern studios for the creative industries within Sheffield is managed by Heeley Development Trust and provides the perfect backdrop for local economic development opportunities and partnerships and this whole initiative cements the relationship between education and commerce.

Darren Booth, Director of The Brand New Idea said: “We moved to Sum Studios to become more integral to the creative hub of Sheffield, but also be part of a community that wants to move forward. Working with Anns Grove is allowing us to give something back to the community. It also gives us a chance to identify potential design stars and future talent that Sheffield has to offer.”
